Farris Poole
Meet Photographer Farris L. Poole, Esq.

One of the craziest things Farris Poole says he ever did was to open a commercial photography studio with his business partner, Cindy Kubica, in 1992. “We only had five-hundred dollars betweenus,” he said. “It was enough to pay the first half of the month’s rent.

We stayed up all night trying to figure out how we were going to pay the second half of the rent." Farris and Cindy must have figured it out, because in 2003, they bought their own building in Franklin, Tennessee.

A native of middle Tennessee, Farris is one of a very small minority of locals who do not aspire to play an instrument or sing (although he does admit to whistling on occasion). Instead, he had a series of careers before turning to photography. At one point a friend asked Farris to photograph a modern dance performance for her. “As I was looking through the view finder I thought, ‘This is great. This is what I need to be doing.’ It felt so natural.” said Farris.

Since then, Farris, an unabashed cat fanatic, has honed his craft and now primarily concentrates on commercial, product, and celebrity shots. But he does not rule out other creative ways of using his photography skills. In August and September of 1997, Farris had a showing of black and white photography at the prestigious John F. Kennedy Center in Nashville. The work was titled "Reflections," and was a stunning exhibit of thirteen photographs Farris shot of adults with severe developmental disabilities. Farris also uses his talents to support select charity events in and around Nashville.

A versatile and creative photographer who is known for his ability to capture strong, arresting images that reveal the true personality of his subjects, Farris has a unique ability to put his subjects at ease. While every photo shoot has the potential to be tension riddled, sessions with Farris Poole remain enjoyable and upbeat, primarily due to Farris’ intriguing combination of energy and calm. He is probably his own toughest critic and even though his photos have graced the covers of magazines and album covers, says he has yet to make a single photograph he is completely happy with.

The perfect photograph may be his ultimate quest and the driving force behind his entire career. The always unanswered question, “What if?” fuels his imagination and there seems to be an inexhaustible source of ideas to try on the next shoot, and the one after that. I Want a Love Story to Happen to Me is Farris’ first book, but other similar collaborations with Cindy Kubica are in the planning stages. “It’s another way for me to be creative,” Farris said. “A book project is loaded with challenges, but it is very exciting to see the finished product and the happiness it brings to others.”
